STATE APPROVES GRANTS TO BUSINESSES AND COMMUNITIES
Projects Invigorate Regional Economies, Generate Jobs for Ohioans
COLUMBUS – The State Controlling Board today approved $4.2 million in economic development grants to aid business growth in Ohio. The grants are administered by the Ohio Department of Development and are expected to create 551 new jobs and retain 3,217 positions.
“Ohio’s products, services, and innovative technologies are produced by world-class companies that rely on our state’s skilled workforce to deliver for them,” said Lisa Patt-McDaniel, Interim Director of the Ohio Department of Development. “Ohio companies have sustained a global reputation as leaders through collaboration on a civic, regional, and statewide level. “
Whirlpool Corporation will receive a $250,000 Rapid Outreach Grant for the costs associated with the acquisition of machinery and equipment in support of the company’s project in Allen Township (Hancock County). Whirlpool is the world’s largest manufacturer and marketer of major household appliances and has operated its Findlay facility for more than 40 years. This $10,000,000 project is expected to create 263 jobs and retain 1,698 positions.
Eaton Corporation will receive a $1.5 million Rapid Outreach Grant for fiscal year 2010 and a $1.5 million Rapid Outreach Grant for fiscal year 2011, for a total of $3 million in Rapid Outreach Grant funds for the costs associated with the acquisition of land and building construction in support of the company’s expansion project in the City of Beachwood (Cuyahoga County). The City of Beachwood was also awarded a $625,000 Roadwork Development Grant for the costs associated with the completion of public roadwork improvements in support of the Eaton Corporation project. Founded in 1911 and headquartered in Cleveland, Eaton is a market leader in electrical systems for a variety of end uses. Eaton employs thousands of people globally and does business in more than 150 countries. This $170 project is expected to create 170 jobs and retain 440 positions.
MGA Entertainment, Inc. will receive a $300,000 Rapid Outreach Grant for the costs associated with the acquisition of machinery and equipment in support of the company’s reinvestment project in the City of Hudson (Summit County). Founded in 1971, Little Tykes has manufactured such products as the Crazy Coupe Car and the Turtle Sandbox. This $5.8 million project is expected to create 66 jobs and retain 395 positions.
HCR Manor Care Services, Inc. will receive a $65,000 Rapid Outreach Grant for the costs associated with leasehold improvements and the acquisition and installation of machinery and equipment in support of the company’s expansion in the City of Toledo (Lucas County). HCR Manor Care is a provider of short- and long-term medical and rehabilitation care. This $21.64 million project is expected to create 52 jobs and retain 684 positions.

The Rapid Outreach Grant is a grant program to assist companies and communities that are creating or retaining jobs in Ohio.
The Roadwork Development Account provides grant assistance to communities for highway and road projects related to job creation and retention. The Roadwork Development Account is funded with gas tax dollars and is restricted to public road projects only.
