Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP)

As the result of the enactment of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) received $1.5 billion for eligible applicants to provide financial assistance and services to either prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless or help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized.

In total, Ohio received an allocation of $65,653,996, with $39,448,272 of HPRP funds awarded directly to 21 Ohio cities and counties and $26,205,724 awarded to the State of Ohio for distribution to eligible applicants across the state.

As the Ohio state agency responsible for administering HUD-awarded funds, the Ohio Department of Development’s Community Development Division and its Office of Housing and Community Partnerships will administer the Ohio HPRP.
